 "The City of Edmonton is moving to close the airport despite a groundswell of opposition including from health-care providers and a provincial report stating the importance of the airport, especially for medevac flights from the north including Wood Buffalo. The city airport is much closer to hospitals, unlike the international airport in Leduc, adding about 40 minutes travel time depending on traffic.

All agreed the airport closure is not a municipal issue, but a northern issue and a provincial issue, but more importantly, a health issue.

"We have to ensure the safety of all northern Albertans is protected," said Payne."

Health Quality Council of Alberta Releases Findings and recommendations related to its review of the safety implications for patients requiring medevac services to and from Edmonton International Airport.
