Supporters of City Centre Airport
Many people and organizations outside of the Aviation Edmonton Association have strong feelings that the Edmonton City Centre Airport should remain open as a financial generator, vital health service link and and a major facility for keeping Alberta's Capital connected to the rest of the Province.
Their voices should not be ignored.
Bellow are some of those who have shown their support.

CAANA
Commuter Air Access Network of Alberta (CAANA)
What is CAANA?
CAANA is an association of communities, businesses and people committed to improving air access amongst all regions of Alberta and to improving access to Alberta’s Capital City by way of the Edmonton City Centre Airport.
Alberta’s two major international airports in Edmonton and Calgary play important roles in ensuring Alberta is accessible by air to long haul destinations in North America and internationally. Both major airports devote resources to developing these linkages. There are however no comparable resources available to promote and develop a network of air services amongst Alberta’s regional communities.
The Edmonton City Centre Airport plays a critical role in many communities, more than just the Capital Region. Because Edmonton serves so many interests that are province wide and because accessibility to those services is critical, there is a need related to provincial air services. It is also apparent that the two major airports in Alberta are not structured to respond to the interests of regional air users.
A viable regional air transportation system requires cooperation at both the point of origin and the destination. The nature of the Alberta economy, the role of Edmonton in that economy, the location of Edmonton as a central point, and particularly the fact that it is the seat of the Provincial Government, make it a critical component in air access amongst the regions. The competitive advantage that the City Centre Airport offers for air access makes the use of the airport a keystone for any Alberta network.
How CAANA relates to you
CAANA is the coming together of rural and urban municipalities, economic development organizations, public sector service providers, businesses and individuals located in communities that have an existing or a potential for scheduled air services in or adjacent to the Province of Alberta.

Municipal District of Spirit River NO 113
• The council of this municipality concur with the concern expressed by our neighbours and colleagues in that the City Centre Airport is a major line to Northern Alberta in the transportation of critically ill patients to hospitals in Edmonton and the movement of supplies and personal from Edmonton to points north - Kelly Hudson, Reeve
Municipal District of Opporunity NO17
• MUNICIPAL DISTRICT OF OPPORUNITY NO 17 (Chipewyan Lake, Trout Lake Peerless Lake, Red Earth Creek, Calling Lake, Sandy Lane and Wabasca)
• The airport is a vital link for northern Alberta in all aspects such as air ambulance, transportation of goods, business and industry services. – Paul Sinclair, Reeve
Northern Sunrise County (Peace River)
• Council vehemently feel that the city centre airport is a vital link for emergency services….furthermore, business and industry in Northern Alberta and the Northwest Territories rely heavily on the City Centre Airport for the transportation of goods and supplies to and from Edmonton. If the Edmonton City Centre Airport were closed, the repercussions would severely impact entrepreneurs, jeopardizing the survival of business further, in the recent economic downturn. – Agnes Knudsen, Reeve
Town of Slave Lake
• We are very disturbed with the news as it has direct impact on the safety and health of our residents as well as a negative impact on the business community….Its close proximity to the main medical facilities in the city makes it the end port for our air ambulance flight to city hospitals. In 2007 air ambulance flight from Slave Lake to Edmonton numbered above the 650 mark, which shows our dependence on the services provided by the city centre airport.
• We also have a growing number of flights flying from the City Centre Airport in small commercial planes and helicopter used by many companies doing business in the North. Slave Lake is a service centre form many of these companies and a loss of their ability to fly direct from the city centre would be a great loss to our economy. - Karina Pillay Kinnee, Mayor
Municipal District of Big Lakes (High Prairie)
• Medivac is most important. Our hospitals are in Edmonton, not in Leduc, Time is of the essence when life and death are at stake - Alvin Billings, Reeve

Clear Hills County Council
Clear Hills County Council would like to voice our support of keeping the City Centre Airport in Edmonton open. We feel it is vital to keep this service open and available, especially for emergency use. Access to this location for emergency flights is an essential service to Northern communities. As we are limited in access to medical specialists, as well as, medical equipment, it is imperative that we have an option to air-ambulance flights. These flights can be life saving for northern residents.
The service from the airport also encourages some business travel from the north to Edmonton and surrounding area. This is economically beneficial for all parties involved. -Frances Davis, Reeve
